NetSong (2022)

NetSong is a network traffic sonification system built in Python and Max/MSP. The Python script scrapes web traffic from the IP address of the user, parses the data packets, and sends triggers to a Max-4-Live device hosted in Ableton Live. Each packet type is assigned its own virtual instrument, and packet size is used to control the pitch of the triggered note. This allows the user to "perform" a generative soundscape that responds to the network traffic generated by their usage of the internet.
